After eleven hours and going through North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, DC, Jamie and I, along with the kids, Sumo, Purlie and Buddy, safely arrived in New Jersey around 11:30 pm last night. Needless to say, it was a long trip and all of us were exhausted!

Heading north was an eye opener, specially after we got into northern Virginia, in that, highways got larger … I’m used to four lanes max, not six or more lanes. Traffic became denser … I’ve never seen as many cars in one day then I’ll see in a week back in Myrtle Beach. And traffic travels faster … I mean, drivers not only travel FAST, they drive aggressively. I’m glad Jamie drove because it would have freaked me out! I’m used to a MUCH slower pace.

Other notable changes, the cultural shift was quite noticeable. In South Carolina life is much slower and people in general are more hospitable. The further north we got people were a lot more intense … their not the howdy give a hand wave kind of people. I did notice that most people don’t look you in the eye. Instead, they look to the side of you. Last but not least, there’s a whole lot more to see and do. From museums, parks, and the cities themselves, there is way far more to take in than one would ever do back in Myrtle Beach. Needless to say, I’ve got some major adjustments ahead of me!

As for the weather, though it was chilly when we left Myrtle Beach, the further north we got the colder it got. We stopped at a rest area in Delaware and for the first time my finger tips got cold. Thank goodness Jamie picked out my dress for the trip otherwise I would have froze! It was COLD! And when we arrived in New Jersey, I have to say the cold was piercing. It was like little needles hitting your skin. Other than that, it wasn’t as bad as I was warned … for now anyway.

The only concern I have is Sumo. This trip wasn’t easy for him. Having to be in a confined space for so long, upon arriving he had difficulty standing. His hind legs were like jello causing him to stumble, even fall. Both Jamie and I had to literally pick him up to get him inside. Tell ya, I got worried! But by time we all bedded down, Sumo was able to stand, shaky, nevertheless stand and walk. Thank god!

As for leaving South Carolina, I have mixed emotions. Leaving friends and my best buddy, George, as well as a job I really enjoyed behind totally saddened me. I will miss interacting with all my peeps and job on a daily basis. And Leaving my home saddened me because it was where I hung my hat for six years … I loved my space, it was home for me and the kids. Therefore, leaving the comforts of friends, home and job behind and traveling to begin a new life in Jersey was rather nerving for me. After all, it wasn’t like I was moving next door or down the street. I mean, this move was like jumping off a cliff with a parachute and hoping for a good landing kind of move. This move will be the third of its kind in my adult life-time. And like the other two major moves, I went through the same emotions. However, this one was a bit more intense!

Now that all the packing and traveling is out of the way, it’s a new day here in Wildwood, New Jersey. Today I’m just going to chill and acclimate. I’ve got a few things to do … like change my cell service and kind of unpack. But other than that, it’s going to be a lazy day. As for Sumo, well, he’s doing better. Think it’s going to take him a while to totally adjust. Oh, as for Purlie, she’s no where to be found … like lighting she’s dashed into hiding. Probably won’t see her for a day or two. Other than that, she’s doing fine. And last but not least, Buddy, he’s doing just fine … a bit startled, but just fine.

Until Tomorrow …
