Its The Economy Stupid!

Every time I watch or listen to the news, all I hear is how the economy is improving. Well, I hate to say this, but, really? I would certainly like to know for whom the economy has improved because it certainly isn’t on my end. For example, in order to keep my job and maintain everyday life, in the past year I have:

Gone From Full-time To Part-time
(20-25 hrs., per week)
Taken A Pay Cut
(lost approximately 40% - 50% of my income)
Apply For Government Assistance
(Food Stamps/Medicaid)

Other things I’ve had to let go:

Eating Out
(which really is no big deal)
Grocery Shopping
(if lucky, eating one hot meal per day)
Medical Necessities
(doctor visits/medications/cancer treatments)
Pet Care For Kids
(mainly Sumo)
Auto Maintenance
(my car needs a tune-up/new tires)

And now:

I’m Unable To Meet Basic Expenses
(specially the basics: rent, phone, electric, gas, etc.)
Let Alone Other Expenses
(loan payments, etc.)

If it wasn’t for my friend, George, and my family, with what help they are able to give, I wouldn’t be able to survive. So, for whom is the economy better? It certainly isn’t trickling down in my direction! And when it comes time to vote, if I do vote, yeah, the question with which I will be casting my vote; compared to a year ago how well off am I today?

As a voter, I’m tired of the government lying to me. Life for me and millions of others like me isn’t getting any better.

All the money that went to bailing out the auto, banking and insurance industry, cash for clunkers and appliances, etc., made no dent in my wallet. Instead, it made it worse and now I have little hopes that either party has the solutions or the know how to fix the economy. We are still in a recession … a deep and deepening recession! And if this trend continues, I see nothing but trouble and unrest in the future. As a nation, as a people, we are in trouble!
