As hurricane Irene slithered herself along the South Carolina’s coast, her impact around Myrtle Beach was equal to the power of what we normally get during our rainy season. As I posted on Facebook; … Irene was certainly a bore! All she did was give us a good BJ :) . And folks, that’s the truth!
As to how violent it was predicted to be, throughout the early evening hours I had my front door and sitting window open. Softly in the background, “Schubert Symphony No. 9 in C (Great). Occasionally, the sounds of my chimes would answer the wind making the passing storm more like a Zen moment. During rainy season, we get worst storms than Irene!

According to the National Hurricane Center; Irene made landfall near Cape Lookout, North Carolina. Up the coast, in New York, the subway system and elevators were shut down. And I was totally amazed to see Time Square totally void of human life. At least people took heed! And thank GOD it wasn’t another New Orleans. Should a Cat 4 ever hit the New York area, it would be devastating … here, we know what hurricanes are all about. New York? That would be a hell to the BIG no!
On the flip-side though, I do believe that the memories of New Orleans Cat 4 landfall brought the reality of what can happen and as a result people along the east coast are more conscience and aware. Just like those in California, they’re just as aware of earthquakes. I’ve never been “through” a hurricane and I pray that I never will. Anyway, Myrtle Beach has been lucky … no direct hits in the ten years I’ve lived here, but as for tropical, we get plenty of those. Therefore, as for Irene ... was certainly a bore! All she did was give us a good BJ :).
