Yesterday was a warm beautiful day. However, it was tropically muggy and the air heavy … this seems to be the norm as a hurricane approaches. As for the surf, calm.
As soon as I got home from work today I secured all lawn and hanging plants. Got some grocery shopping done ... caned goods, batteries and candles. And cell phones are charged and ready should the power go out.
About noon today the first band began to come ashore with torrential down pours. As soon as it came it went and since we’ve been having a steady rain fall with a slight breeze. The worst of the storm is supposed to arrive sometime late this evening or early tomorrow morning.
From all reports, Irene’s landfall will be on the out banks of North Carolina on Saturday and from there move northward along the coast. From what I gather, New York is Irene’s target and as of now mandatory evacuations are underway for all low lying areas … this will the first time New Yorker’s will have to evacuate. Irene is expected to hit the region sometime Sunday.
I tell ya, Irene is one huge bitch. Though still a cat 2, it may strengthen to a cat 3, even a cat 4. Here in Myrtle Beach, the most damage will be due to flooding and wind damage.
Stay turned …
