Abuse -- I’m A Survivor
Domestic violence has been in the headlines lately thanks to pop star Rihanna, whose boyfriend Chris Brown has now been formally charged with assaulting her. According to the NIH (National Institute of Health), domestic violence is the most common cause of injury to women ages 15 to 44. And according to the U.S. Department of Justice, domestic violence towards men, men on men, women on women, though sketchy, is on the rise. It is estimated that some 32 million Americans lives with an abuser.
Abuse includes physical, sexual, emotional, intimidation, economic deprivation, and threats. Another realm of abuse which is often ignored and not consider criminal is passive abuse which is covert, subtle and veiled. These include victimization, procrastination, forgetfulness, ambiguity, neglect, spiritual and intellectual abuse.
Though heterosexual abuse dominates the headlines, other groups are equally affect. Though men on women and visa versa is tragic enough, abuse in the gay and lesbian community does exist and is equally as tragic. However, in my opinion, the worst and most volatile form of abuse anyone can experience is between men on men. And sadly, gay men who abuse think nothing about it since law enforcement more often than not will not consider this form of violence as abusive.
I am a survivor of abuse! As a child, though my abuse did not include violence per say, it did, however, involve emotional and spiritual abuse. As a result, temperamentally, I exhibited violent behavior. As an adult, I was physically and emotionally abused by two men. And more recently, I have been abused passively.
Abuse in any form towards another human being, specially towards someone you supposedly love, is down right wrong and unforgiving. Those who abuse in any form are not worthy to be amongst the living. These individuals need to be removed from society and in the most extreme cases, put to death!
I know first hand what it’s like to be abused and I am here to tell you that if anyone every lays a hand on me that is not in a caring or loving way, that individual will forever regret their actions. I don’t care what the consequences are, I will publicly take them down. And as far as anyone every using passive abuse towards me, I’m here to tell you, you think a woman’s scorn is horrible, well buddy, think again!
I am glad that domestic violence is once again being openly talked about and debated. As a society it is time we take a stand against violence period, for no man or woman has a right to harm another human being in any way shape or form. And it’s about time that law enforcement and the courts take abuse seriously, providing the victim is alive to bring their abuser to justice. Think about it, 32 million individuals are affect by domestic and passive violence. It’s time to stop the madness!!!!
