Ecologically, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is a disaster! Personally, it’s heart braking! This spill will probably be this centuries worst manmade disaster. As horrifying as this spill may be, we need to stop pointing fingers at BP (British Petroleum). Instead, we need to look at you and me. If we weren’t hooked on black gold then perhaps this catastrophe could have been avoided. In part, we are the ones to blame and we are the ones who are going to reap what we sow … the destruction of our planet if we continue with our dependence on OIL.

Once we stop being so damned dependent on oil then we can point fingers at big corporations who in all reality could give a shit less about our world and environment. BP knew that problems existed and did nothing to correct it. Why? Simple … GREED! Thy are the ones who are murdering the Gulf and they should be held accountable for their greed over safety.

As for the government … what a joke!, it needs to get some back bone and stand up to this foreign company. Instead of the Obama administration bowing to BP, it needs to go after them cause in the end BP could very well leave us high a dry in fixing and making right this disaster … after all, BP is a foreign company and has no allegiance to the U.S. As much as they proclaim to care, they don’t. They only care about the amount of dollars they are loosing and how much not to spend on cleaning up their so called oops.

As a country I hope that this oil spill is bringing to our attention the necessity of being good stewards of mother earth. We have only one world … there’s no escaping it. Therefore, it behooves us to take care of it rather than allowing greed to trump protecting life here on earth. Course, this won’t happen in my life simply because American’s are addicted to black gold.
