My Friend Georgie and I spent half a day at Freestyle Music Park today … Together, we had a great time! Aside from having a great time, I have to say that if the theme park doesn’t do some improvements like easier park access, more adult rides and entertainment, including better food, like Hard Rock, Freestyle Music Park too will go under.

First and foremost, getting to the amusement park is a task in itself. If you don’t know the area it is way to confusing due to a lack of signage directing you to the entrance. And what signage they do have is to small and difficult to read when driving. Therefore, by improving their signage it would be a tremendous help, specially for out of towner's.

Secondly, for adults, the only two rides worth riding is the Time Machine and the Ring My Bell coasters. Other than that, the park lacks adult rides and entertainment. Now if you’re a kid, unlike last year, this year there’s a lot more for them to do. However, aside from the two coasters there’s really nothing for adults.

Thirdly, eating at the park, hmm!, what can I say … not good! Georgie had a hot dog with onion rings and a drink. I had a hamburger with extra onions, fries and a drink. Total cost $23.95. Ok, no matter what venue you go to eating is going to be expensive … that’s a given. However, both meals were cold and lacking any kind of resemblance to human food.

Georgie wasn’t all that thrilled with his meal. As for my meal, the hamburger tasted like it had been soaking in some kind of juice forever and its texture was rubbery … it was like chewing bubble gum smooshed between two stale buns. As for the fries, they tasted like they were fried in grease that was a month old … they were totally nasty. No amount of ketchup and salt improved their taste.

When my order came up there were no onions on it so I went back to the order window requesting onions. The counter person went back to the kitchen and grabbed a handful of onions with his bare hands and put it on my burger … yuk! When I mention this to the manager she could have cared less and didn’t even offer to cook me a fresh burger. Oh well, so much for service!

Last but not least, the other improvement Freestyle Music Park needs is more shade. As hot as it gets here in Myrtle Beach, specially during July through September, there’s very little shade or cover to stand under. If the temperatures get into the hundreds, unless you’re waiting for a ride you are at the mercy of the sun. Now if you’re looking to get a suntan, hey, not a problem! But for the elderly and those who are handicapped, there’s no shade for them to escape the heat.

In my opening I stated that if the theme park doesn’t make some improvements it will go under. I will admit that Freestyle Music Park has a lot to overcome. Hard Rock left a BAD taste in peoples mouth and their community outreach really sucked. Guess they figured that their brand name alone will bring the guests in, but it didn't. Therefore, Freestyle Music Park has some obstacles to overcome … mainly regaining the loyalty of locals. Then it needs to regain the loyalty of guests, particularly those who attended last year since Myrtle Beach thrives on repeat vacationers. If they can accomplish this, as well as ad rides, entertainment and better food then the park might have a chance ... I certainly hope so!?!

Aside from my few complaints and suggestions, thank you Georgie for getting us free passes. I had a great time and did get some color in the process.

Until Tomorrow ...
