Susan Boyle did again on Britain’s Got Talent Sunday night. She sang “Memory” from the infamous Broadway Show “Cats”. Though she had a bit of a problem in the beginning, she showed that nerves or not, she was out to win and going to sing for the Queen. As for her “new” look, hey, if anyone deserves a more spruced up look, Susan does. Have to say, Susan is a diamond in the rough and given the chance a headliner somewhere down the road. You Go Girl! Though summer doesn’t officially begin till sometime in June, Memorial Day is our unofficial start of the summer season. Not only is it the first holiday of the season, it’s also a day when we, as a country, remember all of our service men and women who have and are serving our country.
To most, today is just an extra day off. A time to play, shop, relax or whatever one wants to do. Unfortunately, for the majority of us the significance of the day has been lost. Unless you have a family member serving in any of the armed forces, Memorial Day is just another day ... a free day, a day to collect two hundred dollars and advance three spaces.
World War II, America took upon itself to overthrow Hitler and the Nazi machine … Hitler was determined to rule the world. Today, once again, America is taking it upon itself to overthrow a much different kind of war … the war of religious ideology. Today, we live on the edge of the next world war.
Today, America lives under a death sentence. A “Holy War” has been declared on us and those who are bent on our destruction is as determined to annihilate our nation as we are equally as determined to just have an extra day off. Our freedoms are slowly eroding thanks to those who attacked us on 9/11, and we dare sit back with no concern. As a nation, we should be ashamed of ourselves and its this complacency that will bring another 9/11, but in a more devastating form. So I ask, will it take another 9/11 like incident for us to wake up? I think so!
As we enjoy an extra day off lets take the time to reflect and remember those who have and are protecting us so we are able to enjoy another Memorial Day. It’s time we look beyond this day off and honor those who have given of themselves so that more will not have too. We are a strong nation. We are a free nation. Lets stop taking our way of life for granted and work towards a world in which we can live with our differences in peace and without war. We can do it only if we want it! So, with said, to those who have given to our country, thank you!
I received a personal email from a visitor to my blog who read my recent posting dated May 18th and 20th. I will share a portion of Sandy’s email with you.
“I have read your postings as well as the responses to the May 18 and 20 journal entries. The only question I would like to put forth to you is; where do you see your relationship in five years? I think it is important that you look at how you arrived where you are today and measure it to how it will be five years from now. If you see a steady forward movement then you should remain in your relationship. If not, then it may well be best if you rethink your place in his life and maybe change your direction. Life is to short for anyone to take it for granted. Most of all, no one should be taken for granted either. With what little time we have been given, it should be our own personal endeavor to find happiness and contentment in our lives. You had this once before. You should live to have it again.”
Sandy, thank you for your email and for your excellent suggestion which I will certainly consider. You are right when you say that life is to short and we shouldn’t take it for granted. We pass this way but once and we have only this opportunity to get it right. Therefore, I will do as you suggested and will keep you posted. I will, however, say this much ... I will never again spend another holiday alone. In the past three years the holiday's have been lonely and empty ones. Therefore, I don't care what I have to do ... come the next holiday and any thereafter, I will not be alone ... ever again!
Until Tomorrow...
